We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health.
You wouldn't tell someone to just get on with it, or pull yourself together if they had broken their leg. So why do we think peoples who's mental health is low can do it?
Everybody will suffer with some mental health issue in their life, stress, grief, PMT all are things that effect your mental wellbeing and most of these things pass, just like a cold. Your body does what it needs to and you recover. But sometimes, it is more difficult. Just like a cold takes more effort and longer to fight for those that may have a low immune system, the mind works the same way. If it's already trying to cope with other things, added worries or stress can be triggers for more serious or long term problems.
The world health organisation state that every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide (WHO, 2019) and are encouraging everyone to take 40 seconds of action. To help you can do the following;
Help improve awareness of the significance of suicide as a global public health problem
Improve your knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide
reduce the stigma associated with suicide
Let people who are struggling know that they are not alone.
Because we know your physical and mental health are completely intertwined we work closely with a great local councillor named Steve Maidment.
